There is legislation to cover the height of glass balustrade to a minimum of 1000mm but  differs slightly to staircase applications due to the landing platform. Yes , this is basically the major visible difference to that of a Pool Fence. Where there is a fall greater than 1 metre then  handrail is required as a secondary barrier. Similar to household windows, cleaning is usually best annually or every 6 months. Exterior glass panels attract only dirt and dust over time and will wash clean easily with soapy water and a squeegee with excesses wiped away with a micro fibre cloth.
